Oceano Surf – Surf Lifesaving -Surf Instructor Courses
New for the winter season of 2012 Oceano Surf Camps have teamed up with the Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI) and have on offer a two week course, where you will have the chance to qualify as a level 1 surf coach in turn to have an award that is internationally recognised.
The ASI Level 1 surf coach will enable you to work as a surf coach across the world. During the two week period you will also have the chance to qualify for a surf life saving award. This award will accompany the ASI Level 1 coach award.
The course will be held over a two week period in and around Conil de la Frontera and El Palmar in the month of February 2012.
The Surf Instructor Course
The ASI is the worlds leading surfing education and accreditation organisation. Head office is located at Bondi Beach Australia.
The ASI is also endorsed by the Australian Department of Education as a Registered Traning Organisation (RTO), thereby demonstrating high educational standards.

Course Aim:
The aim of the course is to bring you to a level where you can, plan, conduct and assess an instructional surfing session for beginner to intermediate skills, without supervision.

Workshop Course Information
What you will need to do:
- At workshop (including homework)
- complete written assessments
- demonstrate practical surfing skill (e.g perform top turn, bottom turn with spray, cut-back, re-entry in minimum 3ft surf
- demonstrate lesson delivery
- Provide (1) photograph of you surfing at the intermediate level – answering questions in relation to the photo
Beach Lifeguard Course
This qualification is specifically for those candidates who want to work as a surf instructor and need to have a lifesaving qualification. The course is held over 6 days including the exam and can be combined with the ASI Surf Instructor Course. There is no timed pool swim. Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas
Adult + Child CPR, First Aid, Spinal Incident Management, Board Rescue, Recovery position and aftercare, Tows and releases
What are the entry requirements? – You must must be physically fit and able to swim 200m as well as run 200m on the beach in under 60 seconds
Who is this course aimed at? – People who want to work as surf instructors, outdoor pursuits instructors or embark on careers in rescue and emergency care.
What will I be doing on the course? Lifeguarding Theory, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid, Spinal management, Open Water Skills
Do I need to have experience? – Previous experience is desirable but not essential as all training will be provided during the course. Having basic board skills and a knowledge of the beach and ocean environments will help.
How old do I have to be? – Candidates must be age 16 on the day of the exam
Do you offer accommodation? – Accommodation is provided by Oceano Surf
What is the difference between the Beach Lifeguard course and the Surf Coach Lifesaver Award? — The Surf Coach Lifesaver Award is specifically designed for surf coaches who need to have a lifesaving qualification. It cannot be used to apply for beach lifeguard positions. There is no timed pool swim in the SCL award and the 200m run must be completed in under 1min.
Course D ates & Prices
February 2012 is when the course will be held. The course will be held over a two week period, allowing all participants to have free surfing time and visit some local attractions.
The price of the course without accommodation is €550 euros.
Oceano Surf Camps is providing self catered, shared accommodation in Conil de la Frontera. The price of the accommodation for a two week duration is €375euros.
