Surfing in Early April
Apr 25I wanted to go surfing ever since I tried snowboarding and loved it but feared for my life. Surfing can be dangerous, don’t get me wrong, but there are no sharks, no jellyfish, no rocks in Conil’s beaches.
I never felt like I could break my collarbone with a wipeout. Because of that freedom, I could push myself further and try faster, bigger waves. The last day was the best when the waves got up above 1 meter and just getting out to where the waves break was a challenge. By then, Andy had already troubleshooted my form so I was still making every beginner mistake possible, but I was starting to be aware of it. And even beginners can catch great rides – the first time I tried to stand up, I was all of a sudden riding along, happily surprised at how easy it was. Consistency is what Andy helped me work on, because I realized too many wipeouts take away from great surfing, and wipeouts come from bad form.
Good form comes from practice and professional help, and I’m glad Andy was there with the tips for better surfing. I’d definitely recommend Andy’s class – the apartment was awesome, the other surfers made going out nights to remember, and Conil has some really amazing food. Altogether, it was a great experience and I’m definitely going to be going surfing again!
